Our History
The towering trees that grace the front yard of Daggett Funeral Home were planted by hand in 1956 by George Daggett, shortly after he and his wife, Fawn, built and opened their first funeral home in Barryton. Their second location, Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids, followed in 1974—again marked by George planting trees that would grow tall alongside the family’s legacy.
George and Fawn built both a family and a business rooted in compassion, welcoming daughters Ann and Christine while serving Mecosta County with care and dedication. After George’s sudden passing in 1998, Christine, a licensed funeral director who had worked alongside her father, continued the family mission with Fawn and the devoted Daggett staff.
In late 2024, the funeral home entered a new chapter when it was sold to independent ownership while remaining family-owned and individually operated. Alec Gary assumed the role of local funeral director and manager, continuing the tradition of personal service and community commitment.
Today, the Daggett legacy endures—defined by integrity, professionalism, genuine compassion, and the steady growth first symbolized by George’s carefully planted trees.
