William J. "Bill" Whitman, age 60 of Big Rapids, passed away Tuesday, December 28, 2021 at his home. He was born July 5, 1961 in Peru, Indiana, the son of Ronald and Jeanette (Bull) Whitman. Bill was a 1980 graduate from Reed City High School Following graduation he enlisted in the United States Air Force honorably serving during the Gulf War. Bill retired as a Tech Sergeant. He married Debi Wells May 19, 1984 in Reed City and together they moved around the world as they traveled with the Air Force. Bill and Debi settled in Big Rapids where they raised their two sons Joshua and Jacob. Bill attended Ferris State University to further his education. He enjoyed listening to music and playing his guitar, ukulele, and baritone saxophone. Bill is survived by his wife of 37 years, Debi of Big Rapids; two sons, Joshua of Stanwood and Jacob (Destiny) of Morley; his mother, Jean of Reed City; two grandchildren, Wyatt and Caroline; two sisters, Melissa (Stuart) Starkweather of Woodland, California and Julie Walker of Flint; father and mother-in-law, Robert and Doris Wells of Paris; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father. A Celebration of Life will take place from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm Friday, June 10, 2022 at the Big Rapids Eagles. Memorial contributions may be made in Bills name to Spectrum Health Hospice.
