William "Bill" W. Hopkins, age 74, of Barryton (Tubbs Lake) passed away Wednesday, January 2, 2008 at Mecosta County Medical Center. He was born October 30, 1933 in Grand Rapids, Michigan, to Roy and Grace (Dingman) Hopkins. Bill was born in Grand Rapids and grew up in Lansing. He was an experimental engineer at Oldsmobile/GM retiring in 1984. The family has enjoyed their property at Tubbs Lake since the late 60's. Shortly after retirement they made it their permanent home. Bill was honorably discharged from the United States Marine Core and was a member of the Big Rapids AmVet Post #1941. He enjoyed making outdoor furniture and decorations. William is survived by his loving wife of 52 years Joyce of Barryton, Children: Michael Hopkins of Lansing And Sue Cook-Guillaume and her husband David Guillaume, Four grandchildren; Kari Hopkins, Kelly (Tim Sigurani) Hopkins, Jason (Rhonda) Cook and Joshua (Kirsten) Cook, they have eleven great grandchildren, one brother-in-law Jay (Lucy) Whitney and several nieces and nephews that will treasure the memories they have. Besides his parents William was preceded in death by a brother Robert, sister Shirley and sister-in-law Ann. Funeral services will take place 1:00 p.m. Monday, January 7th at the Daggett Funeral Home in Barryton with military honors under the auspices of Big Rapids AmVet Post #1941. The family will greet friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Memorial donations in Bill's memory may be made to the Big Rapids AmVet Post.
