William L. Engelman, age 85 of Big Rapids, passed away Tuesday, December 28, 2010 at his home. He was born November 1, 1925 in Howard City the son of Albert and Vera (Herrick) Engelman. Bill was honorably discharged from the United States Navy, serving during World War II in the Asiatic Theater. Bill had made his home in the Big Rapids area for over 50 years. He enjoyed many years as a driver for the Mecosta County Commission on Aging and received the Mary Pine Award in June of 2010. Bill was a life member of the V.F.W. He is survived by his 2 sons; Bill (Sandra) Engelman of Big Rapids, Jay Engelman of Eldorado, Kansas; 2 granddaughters, Paula (Tim) Culver of Stanwood, Pamela (Patrick) Ross of Morley; 5 great-grandchildren; 3 step-great grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandsons; 2 nephews and their families. Besides his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his first wife, Clarice and his second wife, Reba. With respect to Bill's wishes, there will be no public services. Those considering a memorial contribution may leave it for the family at the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids where arrangements were made.
