William H. Dunn Jr., age 87, a lifelong resident of Monroe Avenue in Big Rapids, passed away Wednesday, October 3, 2007 at Mecosta County Medical Center. He was born June 28, 1920 in Big Rapids the son of William and Edith (Cox) Dunn. Bill was honorably discharged from the United States Army serving during World War II in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater. He married Evelyn I. Totten on December 7, 1945 and together they made their home in Big Rapids. Bill began his working career at his father's gravel pit, Dunn Gravel in Big Rapids, which he eventually owned and operated until the early 1960's. He then went to work for the Big Rapids Public School system where he had been a custodian, worked in maintenance and drove school bus for 22 years. Bill retired in 1982. He enjoyed woodworking as a hobby. Bill and Evelyn had wintered in Florida for over 16 years. He is survived by his loving wife, Evelyn of Big Rapids 2 sons; Michael (Wanda) Dunn of Big Rapids, Mark (Kim) Dunn of Evart,4 daughters; Bonnie Dunn of Michigan,Peggy (Glen) Heinmiller of Midland, Ruth Ann (Randy) Wilson of Rodney,Debbie (Chad) Morgan of White Lake, MI 15 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren Nephew, Dale Cramer of Big Rapids and many other nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Bill was preceded in death by 5 brothers; Roland, Russell, David, Jack and George Dunn and one sister, Ardena Cramer. Funeral services will take place 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 8th at the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids with Bill's nephew, Reverend Jack Dunn officiating. The family will greet friends at the funeral home on Sunday, Oct. 7th from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Burial will be at Pine Plains Cemetery in Big Rapids. Memorial contributions may be made to Autism Research or the Salvation Army.
