William R. "Bill" Buckley, age 62 of Big Rapids, formerly of Lansing, passed away Monday, May 23, 2011 at the Meijer Heart Center in Grand Rapids. He was born August 17, 1948 in Reed City the son of Carl and June (Blake) Buckley. Bill graduated from Big Rapids High School in 1966. He then attended Ferris State University earning his Bachelors of Science Degree in business. Following graduation Bill moved to Lansing and accepted a job with the State of Michigan. He retired as the Deputy Director for the Department of Management and Budget and was the youngest person ever to hold that position. Bill regularly attended the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church and the Resurrection Life Church both in Big Rapids with his family. He is survived by his 3 children; Tom (Jennifer) Buckley of Williamston, Kristin (Paul) Wrubel of Berkley, Stephen Buckley of Alberton, Montana; 5 grandchildren, Gracie, Charlie, Josiah, Olivia, Colin; his mother, June Buckley of Big Rapids; 3 sisters, Kay (Terry) Langworthy of Big Rapids, Jan (Randy) Bleeker of Big Rapids, Kim Walters of Mt. Pleasant; many nieces, nephews and his loyal and longtime "Friday Night" friends whose love and support will never be forgotten by Bill's grateful family. Bill was preceded in death by his father, Carl R. Buckley. Funeral services will take place 2:00 p.m. Thursday, May 26th at the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids with Pastor Daniel Clise officiating. The family will also greet friends on Thursday 2 hours prior to services. (from 12:00 p.m. noon until services at 2:00 p.m.) Burial will take place at Highland View Cemetery in Big Rapids. Memorial contributions in Bill's name may be made to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Big Rapids or the Forgotten Man Ministry.
