William "Bill" H. Bongard, age 72 of Barryton, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, January 21, 2014 at his home. He was born on February 6, 1941 in Barryton to John and Evelyn (VanSyckle) Bongard. Bill married Janice Bark on April 23, 1960 in Barryton. He retired from UPS in 1994 where he enjoyed being a mechanic. Bill looked forward to seeing friends at Barryton Days and Remus Heritage days. He was passionate about restoring and selling tractors and working on cars. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and company that stopped by for a visit. Bill is survived by his children, Nick (Becky) Bongard of Grand Rapids, Tammy (Mark) Horstman of Perry, Wendy (Matt) Pickart of Grand Rapids and John (Emily) Bongard of Stanwood; 10 grandchildren who he was very proud of, 3 great-grandchildren who he adored and many nieces, nephews and friends. Bill was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Janice Bongard; one brother, Richard and two sisters, Carrol and BettyJo. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 24, 2014 at the Daggett Funeral Home in Barryton with the family greeting friends one hour prior from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Interment will be at Flake Cemetery in Barryton.
