Wayne Adams, age 82 of Mecosta, passed away Friday, September 28, 2012 at his home with his family by his side. He was born October 3, 1929 in Mecosta, the son of James "Warnie" and Opal May (Warner) Adams. Wayne graduated from Mecosta Rural Agricultural High School in 1949. He married Doretha Helms on October 13, 1951 at the Methodist Church in Mecosta and together they raised their family in Mecosta. Wayne worked for the Army National Guard at the Armory in Big Rapids until he began his own carpentry business, Wayne Adams Contracting. He was an avid outdoors man. Wayne enjoyed many hobbies including hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, four-wheeling and spending time at his cabin in Curtis, MI. He loved tinkering in his wood shop; especially building birdhouses. Wayne took pleasure in watching the birds, deer and squirrels in his yard. He loved his family and will be sadly missed by all who knew him. Wayne is survived by his wife of almost 61 years, Doretha Adams of Mecosta; three daughters, Kay (Terry) Anderson of Stanwood, Lou Ann Kirkpatrick of Stanwood and Bev Adams of Mecosta; five grandchildren, Amy (Matt) Cornell, Kevin (Mindy) Anderson, Aaron (Kari) Anderson, Jennifer (Scott) Biller and Kimberlee (Andrew) Copeland; 13 great-grandchildren, Hannah, Hailey, Logan, Elizabeth, Brieanna, Aidan, Madex, Kyle, Lynsey, Cole, Mackenzie, Katelyn and Courtney; a sister, JoAnn (Harold) Jehnzen of Rodney; many nieces and nephews. Wayne was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Eleanor and Ruth and a son-in-law, Terry Kirkpatrick. A memorial service will take place 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 3, 2012 at the Stanwood Free Methodist Church with Pastor Ron White Officiating. The family will greet friends from 12:00 p.m. (noon) until the service starts at 1:00 p.m. at the church. Memorial contributions may be made in Wayne's name to Great Lakes Caring Hospice.
