Walton Piggott, age 88, of Big Rapids joined the heavenly choir while surrounded by family on Saturday August 8, 2015. Walt was born April 2, 1927 in Benton Harbor, MI, the son of Walton and Erna (Spink) Piggott. Walt was a Navy veteran of World War II and he attended Western Michigan University on the GI bill graduating with his teaching degree. He met his wife Barbara Bishop of Benton Harbor while in college and they were married in 1950 and celebrated 65 years on marriage on June 25, 2015. Walt loved the title of "Coach" and dedicated his life to coaching and teaching first at the High School level and then at Ferris State University for 27 years where he taught health and physical education and coached football, basketball, and baseball. Walt loved the Lord and demonstrated this by his sacrificial service to others through church and his community. Even in retirement he spent countless hours working with Habitat for Humanity and visiting shut-ins around town. Walt is survived by his wife Barbara and four children, Susan (Dale) Rivers of Ft. Myers, FL, Mary (Rudy) Rosner of St. John's, MI, Diane (Don) Lobel of Saginaw, MI, and David (Cindy) Piggott of Sparta, MI., 11 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and by his sister Roberta Sonnenberg of Big Rapids, MI. He is preceded in death by his parents and siblings Mryna Detwiler, Theresa Barlow, Janet Swerbinsky, and Tom Piggott.
