Vivian I. Ryan, age 95 of Stanwood, passed away Saturday, February 10, 2018 at her home. She was born July 31, 1922 at home in Ensley Center, the daughter of Lloyd and Mary (Streeter) Empie. She married Edward J. Ryan in 1943 in Kent County and together they made their home in the Stanwood area. Vivian was a busy farmers wife, the mother of four children and was employed by Wolverine World Wide in Big Rapids until her retirement in 1978.
She is survived by her four children, Betty Lou Moulter of Grand Rapids, Paula (Jack) Benson of Stanwood, Brenda Ryan of Stanwood, Joe (Trulaine) Ryan of Greenville; a step-daughter, Barbara Hoaglin; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and several great-great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Malcolm Taylor of Rockford; many nieces and nephews.
Vivian was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Edward on November 30, 1999; four brothers, Lee, Max, Carroll and Stanley Empie, two sisters, Betty Bremmer and Bernice Taylor and a stepson, Charles Ryan.
Funeral services for Vivian will take place 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 16, 2018 at the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids with Pastor Randy Piatt officiating. The family will greet friends one hour prior to services beginning at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be at The Sand Lake Cemetery.
Memorial contributions in Vivians name may be made to either the American Heart Association of the Diabetes Foundation.
