Virginia J. (Vanderlip) Schuberg, age 99 of Big Rapids, passed away Tuesday, April 4, 2023, at Altercare of Big Rapids. Virginia was born on February 2, 1924, outside of Rodney, to Clinton B and Chloie (Bristol) Vanderlip. She graduated from Mecosta Rural Agricultural School in 1941, and attended Ferris Institute, before working as a secretary/bookkeeper for Oldsmobile in Lansing. On August 1, 1947, she married Harry T. Schuberg. Virginia loved school. She was class president, a member of the drama club, performing in many plays, and a band member both at high school and Ferris. She played the saxophone. In later years, she was room-mother for all five of her children at the Stanwood Elementary School. She learned to play the organ, and she loved to sew. She was an active member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church for many years, and in 1999 she was presented with the Distinguished Volunteer Award for Sewing by Lutheran Social Services. She loved to talk with people, had smiles for everyone, and will be missed by many. Virginia was preceded in death by her husband Harry (2003), her son Ronald, her parents, her brother, Miner Vanderlip, and three infant grandchildren Angela, Matthew, and Gregory. Virginia is survived by her daughter Suzanne (Terry Fyvie); her three sons: Donald (Irene), Dennis (Cheryl), and Kenneth (Patti); her daughter-in-law, Jane; seven grandchildren: Anthony (Stacey) Jeff (Kim), Jon (Kristin) & Jeremy (Christie); Emalie, and Dennis; and seven great grandchildren: Zack & Levi, Cody & Ella, Riley & Ryan, and Austin; and one-great-great-granddaughter, Mallory. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 8, 2023, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Big Rapids with her nephew, Pastor Jerry Bukoski officiating. The family will greet friends from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday, April 7th at Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids. Virginia will be laid to rest next to her husband in Pine Plains Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Virginias name to Immanuel Lutheran Church.
