Virginia Louise Birchfield (Loos), age 94 formerly of Barryton, passed away Wednesday, January 23, 2019 in Big Rapids. She was born July 23, 1924 in Lansing, the daughter of Glenn and Thelma (Nellis) Smith. Her father left home at a young age and her mother married John Phillips when she was 3 years old. He was a wonderful father to Virginia. Virginia married John Loos on January 17, 1945 in Grand Ledge. Later, that year, they moved to Barryton where John took over his father's pharmacy. Virginia worked by his side from 1945 until she sold the business in1978. She always had a passion for antiques and for several years had a shop in the back of the pharmacy. Following John's passing, Virginia married her dear friend Jay Birchfield on October 29, 2005 and they enjoyed a blessed marriage. For the last few years she has resided at The Brook in Big Rapids. Virginia is survived by her daughter, Carol (Russ) Earle of Barryton; son-in-law, Roger (Maxine) Eichenberg of Barryton; and several beloved extended family members and church family. Virginia was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John Loos in 2004; husband, Jay Birchfield in 2013 and one daughter, Diane Eichenberg in 2009. Funeral services for Virginia will take place at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, January 28, 2019 at the Barryton Church of God. The family will greet friends on Monday at the church, prior to the service, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. She will be laid to rest at Flake Cemetery in Barryton. Memorial contributions in Virginia's name can be made to the Barryton Church of God where she actively participated when she was able.
