Virgilene Forbes, age 87 of Lake, passed away on January 20, 2014, while residing in an AFC Home in Evart, MI. She was born Mary Virgilene on August 3, 1926, to Hamilton and Mary (Mitchel) Letson. In August of 1942, she married Fay Forbes in Brinton (Coldwater Twp.) and worked with her husband on their farm. Virgilene was an avid hunter and enjoyed fishing. Music was a big part of her life, and she loved to play her guitar and sing. She and her husband, Fay, played music for weddings and dances. Virgilene is survived by one son, Michael (Pam) Forbes of Rodney; one daughter, Janet (Jim) Leiter of Big Rapids; 8 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, 10 great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Anastasia "Annie" Sherman of Lake, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Fay, in 1979; an infant daughter, Evelyn; an infant great-grandson, Samuel; a son, Lavern, in 2013; 2 brothers and 4 sisters. A memorial luncheon will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 17th at the Coldwater Twp. Hall (the corner of Coleman and Brinton Rd.) Contributions in Virgilene's name may be made to the Mecosta County Commission on Aging (Meals on Wheels Program).
