Virgil Dale Loomis, age 78, of Weidman passed away on Saturday, November 20, 2010 at CMCH in Mt. Pleasant. He was born on March 7, 1932 in Sherman City, MI to Emmorey and Jenny (Miller) Loomis. He was honorably discharged from the United States Army and was stationed in Germany during the Korean War. Virgil was a member of the Weidman VFW Post. He made a hobby of farming and enjoyed fishing. Virgil was a generous man whose door was always open. Virgil is survived by eight children, Barbara (Kevin) Coffell of Weidman, Allen (Jane) Loomis of Rosebush, Andrew Loomis of Weidman, Linda (Andrew) Coffell of Weidman, Kathleen Gates of Weidman, Jeffery (Norma Anderson) Loomis of Weidman, Sandra (Dan Clevenger) Loomis of Mt. Pleasant, Rebecca (Christopher) James of Weidman and their mother Dorothy Loomis of Weidman; 5 siblings, Tom (Phyllis) Loomis, Charles (Donna) Loomis, Patrick Loomis, Beverly (Willard "Red" ) Denslow and Vernetta (Max) Kimbell; 25 Grandchildren and 19 Great-Grandchildren who all know they specifically are the "favorite" . He was the beloved uncle to numerous nieces and nephews, lovingly called grandpa by many and had several close friends. Virgil was preceded in death by his parents; son Virgil D. Loomis Jr.; four siblings, Thelma Leiter, Keith Loomis, Myrtle Esterleine and Vance Loomis. The family will greet friends from 2PM to 4 PM and 6PM to 8PM on Tuesday at the Daggett Funeral Home in Barryton and two hours prior to the service from 11AM to 1PM. Funeral service will be held at 1PM on Wednesday, November 24th at the funeral home with interment following at Forrest Hill Cemetery in Weidman. Memorial donations in Virgil's name can be made to either the American Heart or Lung Association.
