Violet I. Sprague, age 79 of Barryton, passed away Friday afternoon, January 21, 2022. She was born November 10, 1942 in Marquette the daughter of Charlie and Grace (Underwood) Gilmore. Violet family moved to Boyne City when she was a little girl. She graduated from Boyne City High School and married Victor J. Sprague on December 9, 1961. Soon after the couple moved to Barryton to make their home and raise their family. She was employed by Wolverine World Wide in Big Rapids, retiring after 35 years. Violet and Victor had a seasonal home at Trout Lake where they enjoyed many summers together; it was a tradition that Violet continued even after Victors passing. She made sure family and friends knew they were always welcome. Violet loved the outdoors, fishing, four wheeling and her puppy Polly. She was a long-time member of the Lighthouse Free Methodist Church in Barryton. She is survived by her four children, Doreen (James) Bryant of Idaho, Doris (Dale) Lehnert of Remus, Victor Jr. (Cathy) Sprague of Evart, Mark (Jodi) Sprague of Italy, TX; 19 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; four brothers, Charlie (E.J.) Gilmore of Rodney, Edwin (Terry) Gilmore of Chippewa Lake, Earl (Sandy) Gilmore of Mecosta, Elmer Gilmore of Evart; many nieces and nephews. Violet was preceded in death by her husband Victor Sr. on June 6, 2014, three grandchildren and two brothers Russell and Tommy Gilmore. A memorial service will take place 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 29, 2022 the Lighthouse Free Methodist Church, 4395 20 Mile Road, Barryton 49305. The family will greet friends one hour prior to services and a light lunch will be served after the service. Arrangements are entrusted to the Daggett Funeral Home in Barryton.
