Violet "Maxine" (Sutherland) Ring, age 81 of Barryton went home to be with Her Lord on January 8, 2010 at Mecosta County Medical Center in Big Rapids. Maxine was born to Amos "Carlton" and Esther (Barber) Sutherland on February 27, 1928 in Sharon, TN. Maxine was raised in Fulton, KY where she graduated from High School before moving to Michigan. On September 12, 1948 she married Lowell O. "Skeet" Ring in Detroit. They made their home in Wayne before moving to Barryton 13 years ago. Maxine enjoyed Skeet's cooking and when they had the chance to go to Kentucky Lake they wouldn't pass up the opportunity to fish together. Maxine was an avid reader, a sports fanatic and has been known to talk the paint off the wall. When she was younger she played and coached women's fast pitch softball. She liked to bowl and watch football and baseball. In fact up until a little bit ago she could tell you up to date football and baseball stats. She was a fan of her son's baseball talent often encouraging him from the side lines when he was a young man. Maxine was a former member of the Westland Church of the Nazarene and a current member of the Barryton Church of God where she was actively involved with missions and sent videotapes of the church service to shut-ins. She was passionate about teaching Sunday School and loved her church family. Maxine will be deeply missed by her beloved husband of 61 years; Lowell Ring of Barryton, son Kenneth Lowell (Cathy) Ring of Taylor, daughter Marsha (John M.) Mellish of Cadillac, two sisters; Janell Cronk of Madison Heights and Glynda Hargrove of New York City, ten grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren whom she loved and many nieces and nephews. Maxine was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters; Shirley Grant and Carla Fay Sutherland. The family will greet friends on Thursday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Daggett Funeral Home in Barryton. Funeral services for Maxine will be held 1:00 p.m. Friday, January 15, 2010 with visitation three hours prior to the service from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at the Barryton Church of God. Memorial donations in Maxine's name can be given to the Woman of the Church of God and Children of Promise also a Church of God Program.
