Violet "Marie" Croad, age 75 of Barryton (Tubbs Lake) passed away on Sunday, February 7, 2010 in Grand Rapids. She was born in Missouri on April 1, 1934. Her family moved to Alma when she was a young woman. She met her husband to be Eugene D. Croad in Alma and they were married on May 9, 1953 in Middleton. Marie and Gene made their home and raised their family in Greenville until making their cottage on Tubbs Lake their permanent home in 1990. Marie was employed at Wolverine World Wide in Rockford and Big Rapids for 30 years. She was known as the family photographer and enjoyed crossword puzzles, collecting angels, was an avid euchre player and loved to cook and bake. Marie is survived by her beloved husband of 56 years Gene, five children: Gary (Susan) Croad of Rudyard, Duane (Jaci Smith) Croad of Gowen, Richard Croad of Greenville, Robert Croad of Gowen and Susan (Doug) Huffman of Wyoming, her brother; Leon (Sherryl) Stolz of TX, 18 adored grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren who she took pleasure in baking cookies for and many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents Marie was preceded in death by her son Neil and brother Larry Stolz. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at the Daggett Funeral Home in Barryton at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 11, 2010 with Pastor Zane Abberger officiating. The family will greet friends one hour prior to services.
