Victor Jay Sprague Sr., age 73 of Barryton, passed away on Friday, June 6, 2014 in Grand Rapids. He was born on August 31, 1940 in Barryton to John Sprague Sr. and Neoma (Rhodes). Victor graduated in 1960 from Barryton Rural Agricultural High School and married Violet Gilmore in Boyne City, MI on December 9, 1961. Victor and Violet raised their family in Barryton and have enjoyed spending the last 14 summers at Trout Lake in the UP. Victor was an avid hunter and fisherman when he was able, enjoyed wood working and loved to play euchre daily at the "Card Room" in Evart. Victor was previously employed at Wolverine World Wide where he was a foreman. He was a truck driver at McLachlan Drilling in Evart and retired in 1999 after sustaining injuries at work. Victor is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Violet of Barryton; four children, Doreen (James) Bryant of Arlington, WA, Doris (Dale) Lehnert of Remus, Victor (Cathy) Jr. of Evart, Mark (Jodi) of Waxhachie, TX; four siblings, John (Mary), Eldon (Shirley), Joanne (Mike) Murphy and Effie Soto; 19 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and close friends. Victor was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Vonna Struble from Evart and three grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 10, 2014 at the Barryton (Lighthouse) Free Methodist Church (4395 20 Mile Road) with the family greeting friends two hours prior from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the church with Pastor Tom Doherty officiating.
