Obituary

Vickie D. Bauer, 68 of Weidman passed away Friday, May 7, 2010 at Gratiot Community Hospital in Alma. She was born in Weidman on January 23, 1942 to Howard and Neva (Fender) Metcalf. Vickie graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School. On November 23, 1963 she married Charles "Fred" Bauer in Midland where they made their home until the late 1970's when they moved to Weidman. Vickie worked at Mid Michigan Real Estate before becoming a direct care worker for Listening Ear in Mt. Pleasant. Vickie enjoyed her work and the chance to help others for over 10 years. In 1997 she had a heart attack which led to future health problems and retirement. Vickie always looked forward to going fishing, making crafts, sewing, crocheting, wood working, baking and camping. Camping could start as early as Easter weekend snow or no snow, sick or not sick. Vickie was a pillar in her family and always had some input on everything. Popcorn and ice cream were her favorite along with nit picking and complaining at Fred. She was the best backscratcher and a unique way of saying such words as frog and purse. Most of all Vickie had a big heart and a lot of love. Together with Fred they raised a close knit family. A family that supports, provides for and loves each other unconditionally. Vickie is survived by her husband of 46 years, Fred, children; Laura (Mark Abbott), Charles "Chuck" H. Bauer, Dennis (Jeanette Conroy), Vernon (Julie Leiferman) all of Weidman, Ten beloved grandchildren who she never tired of spoiling, a dear sister Austa King of Traverse City and many nieces and nephews Vickie was preceded in death by her parents, a sister Wilma Teeter in 2009 and a daughter Angela R. Bauer. Funeral services for Vickie will be held 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 11, 2010 at the Daggett Funeral Home in Barryton with the family greeting friends two hours prior from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Interment will be at Coral Cemetery.
