Vernon F. Cain, age 77 of Stanwood, passed away Tuesday, February 6, 2018 at home with his family at his side. He was born on August 14, 1940 in Stanwood, the son of Vernon C. and Ilene (Seamen) Cain. Vern married Nancy Jacobitz on November 3, 1961 in Grandville, MI and they made their home in White Cloud where they raised their family. In 1987, Vern and Nancy moved back to the family farm in Stanwood. He was a heavy equipment operator and proud member of the Operating Engineers Local 324 for 51 years. Vern was an avid sports fan and always looked forward to watching his grandchildren play. He loved the Detroit Tigers and in his younger years he enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Vern is survived by his wife of 56 years, Nancy Cain of Stanwood; four daughters, Deb Cain of Cedar Springs, Tammy (JB) Martin of Stanwood, Cheri (Kevin) Wheeler of Stanwood, Kelley (Brad) Huested of Stanwood; seven grandchildren, Connor Ackerman, Bob (Ashley Brock) Cain, Jeremy (Ashleigh) Martin, Kayla (Calvin) Granger, Adam Wheeler, Jake Huested, Brooke Huested; six great-grandchildren, Silas, Ashton, Lux, Makenna, Lexi and Jayden; and many extended family and close friends who will continue to hold the memories they have close to their hearts.

Vern was preceded in death by his parents.

In celebration of Vern's life a memorial luncheon will be held 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, February 10, 2018 at the Mecosta Township Hall, 19729 11 Mile Rd., Big Rapids, MI.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Vern's name to Spectrum Health Hospice.
