Verna Lee Allen, 83 of Blanchard, passed away on Sunday, March 16, 2014 at McLaren Central Michigan in Mt. Pleasant. She was born on December 20, 1930 in Portland to Avery and Reva (Fitzgerald) Sedore. Verna graduated from Big Rapids High School and married Homer Allen in 1949. She was a hard worker throughout her life; first on the family farm and raising her children, followed by a career at Hitachi where she retired, concluding with a job at the Soaring Eagle where she retired at the age of 77. Verna was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Homer; one son, Walter; a daughter, Lois; a grandson, Brett and two infant sons. Verna is survived by her daughter Karen (Stephen) Moore of Remus; one son, Francis Allen of Blanchard; three grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and friends who will miss and remember a hard working, loving, loyal and strong willed woman. In lieu of flowers memorials in Verna's memory can be made to the arthritis foundation or the family. Cremation has taken place and a private graveside memorial will be held at a later date.
