Vern F. Welker, age 72 of Rogers Heights, passed away Monday, July 30, 2012 at his home. He was born October 29, 1939 in Battle Creek, the son of Ernest and Leota (Kintigh) Welker. Vern was honorably discharged from the United States Army in 1965. He married Marcia Yarrington on June 29, 1968 in Rogers Heights. Vern was employed by Wolverine World Wide for 20 years as a Desma Operator. He later established his own building construction company, Welker Building Construction, specializing in renovations. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle and wood working. Together Vern and Marcia traveled to Texas in their fifth wheel for the last 6 years during the winter. He is survived by his wife, Marcia Welker of Rogers Heights; 2 sisters, Evelyn Welker and Judy Elliott; many nieces and nephews. Vern was preceded by his parents; his brothers, Carl, Ernest and Loren Welker; 3 sisters, Marie Welker-Myers, Margene Myers and Tonya Ball. A memorial service will take place 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 4, 2012 at the Big Rapids First Baptist Church with Pastor Bruce Peterson officiating. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service at 10:00 a.m. at the church.
