Verda J. Nutter, age 83 of Hawkins, passed away Saturday, June 28, 2008 at Spectrum Health Hospital, Butterworth Campus in Grand Rapids. She was born September 9, 1924 in Deseronto, Canada to Wilson and Bella (Leafe) Maracle. She married Orie Nutter Jr. and together they made their home in the Detroit area. Verda worked at the Westland Convalescence Center for many years as their head cook. In 1971 Orie and Verda purchased a vacation home in Hawkins and following their retirement in 1984 the family moved to Hawkins permanently. She is survived by her children; Michael (Frankie) Nutter of Luther Bella (Larry) Davis of Luther Robert Orie Nutter, Douglas Nutter and Craig Nutter all of Hawkins Six grandchildren; Melanie, Michael, Stephen, Eric, Gregory and Matthew, several great-grandchildren, two sisters,Wilma Maracle and Mary Ann Hill both of Deseronto, Canada and many nieces and nephews. Verda was preceded in death by her parents and her beloved husband Orie Nutter Jr. on December 20, 2001. Funeral services will take place 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 2nd at the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids with burial at the Davenport Cemetery near Hawkins. The family will greet friends on Tuesday, July 1st from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and one hour prior to services on Wednesday at the funeral home.
