Vera Joyce Smith, age 75 of Remus, passed away Sunday, November 20, 2011 at Tendercare of Mt. Pleasant. She was born December 19, 1935 in Lake Orion to Theodore and Irene (Pelkie) Warren. In 1953 Vera graduated from Ortonville High School and worked for one year before attending Kentucky Mountain Bible Institute graduating in 1957. While in Kentucky she met Edward Smith and their relationship began. Vera then attended Ford Hospital School of Nursing for three years where she graduated in 1960 as an RN. On June 20, 1959 she married Rev. Edward Smith. Vera used her degree to help out as a church camp nurse at various events. She used her voice to help her husband's ministry as a talented soprano. In the mid 1970's they made their home in Remus and before their health began to decline they attended the Barryton Church of God. Vera is survived by her loving husband of 52 years: Rev. Ed Smith of Remus; three beloved children, Warren (Carrie) Smith of Parma, Connie (Terry) Moore of Remus and Brenda (Michael) Guilliams of Westland; six grandchildren whom she adored, Ted, Stephanie and Hayden Smith, Heather Moore and Luke and Josiah Guilliams; one sister Doris Warren and nieces, nephews and friends. Vera was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters Wilma Warren and Nellie Mae Corey and an infant sister Joan Marie Warren. The family is greatful for the love, support and understanding of their friends and hope that it will continue. Due to circumstances at this time a private family memorial will be held at Tendercare of Mt. Pleasant. Cremation has taken place through the Daggett Funeral Home in Barryton.
