Velma C. Keckler, age 81 a lifelong resident of Big Rapids, passed away Wednesday, September 11, 2013 at Altercare of Big Rapids. She was born April 20, 1932 in Stanwood, the daughter of Halla and Lila (Baker) Wheeler. Velma graduated high school. Velma was a member of the First Baptist Church and she was employed by Wolverine World Wide both of Big Rapids. She also worked at H.H. Cutlers and Michigan Bakery both in Grand Rapids. Velma enjoyed plastic canvas needle work and crocheting. She is survived by three sons, Tim (Tina) Stephan of Howard City, Randall Stephan of Big Rapids and Brian Stephan of Cadillac; two daughters, Colene R. "Coke" Myers of Big Rapids and Danielle Keckler of Battle Creek; 10 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchildren; five sisters; one sister-in-law; many nieces and nephews. Velma was preceded in death by two husbands, Harold Stephan and Ernest Keckler; three brothers; four sisters; her parents. Funeral services will take place 11:00 a.m. Monday, September 16, 2013 at the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids with Pastor Bruce Peterson officiating. The family will greet friends from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 15th at the funeral home. Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery.
