Valerie "Val" Becker, age 65 of Big Rapids, passed away Tuesday, September 30, 2014. She was born February 14, 1949 in Big Rapids, the daughter of Leslie and Eva (Troupe) Newberry. Val enjoyed taking care of others, whether it was at her job or at home. Her life's work was a certified nursing assistant because she was caring and outgoing. Val loved her family and spending time with them. She is survived by her children, Angela (Russell) Maguire, Randy (Carol) Becker, Tammy (Tom) Kailing, Mark (Leoner) Becker and Michelle Becker; 14 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; sisters, Terrie (Jeff) Newberry-Morey, Donna (Mike) Jones, Penny Newberry, Patricia Taylor and Anna Pearl (James) Westover; brothers-in-law, James (Deb) Becker; sisters-in-law, Janice (Gene) Eaton and Pat Becker; and many nieces and nephews. Val was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jack Becker on February 24, 2014; brother, Wayne Newberry; son, Rusty; daughter, Trixie; brothers-in-law, Bob and Dennis Becker; son-in-law, Kevin; and twin great-grandchildren, Calvin and Edwin. A memorial luncheon will take place from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 11, 2014 at the Big Rapids First Baptist Church. A graveside service will follow at New Grant Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in Val's name to the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home to help with expenses.
