Hubert "Tony" Albachten, age 81 of Big Rapids passed away Sunday, September 1, 2024 at his home. He was born February 11, 1943 in St. Paul, Minnesota the son of Gregory Sr. and Florence (Eischen) Albachten. Tony enlisted in the United States Air Force serving until his honorable discharge in 1966; he later continued in the reserves for two more years. He earned his Bachelors degree in Electronics from Ferris State College. Tony began his professional career at Ferris in the early 70s and retired in January of 2008. He also established Quality Electronics offering a variety of products and systems for the home. Tony was an amateur movie critic and every day he managed to watch a western, his favorite was the Lone Ranger. He had a huge model train collection that he loved to display and operate. Tony enjoyed woodworking and made many additions and improvements to his home. He was a member of AmVets #1941 and Saint Mary Saint Paul Catholic Parish both in Big Rapids. Tony will forever be remembered for his quick wit, his happy go lucky demeanor and his infectious laugh. He is survived by his beloved wife, Kelly of Big Rapids; six children, Dennis (Lynn) Albachten of Allendale, Kristen Horan of Denver, CO, Jennifer Trask of Hersey, Robert (Misty) Trask of South Carolina, Brent (Amie) Albachten of Big Rapids, Beverly (Nathan) Gillespie of Big Rapids; 12 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; a sister, Barb Keller of Alexandria, MN; several nieces and nephews. Tony was preceded in death by his parents; twin daughters, Shelly and Sherry Albachten; a grandson, Josh Horan; a sister, Jean Effertz, and two brothers; Greg Albachten and Richard Albachten. A Mass of The Resurrection will take place at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 10, 2024 at St. Paul Catholic Church in Big Rapids with Father Dan DePew celebrating. The family will greet friends on Monday, September 9th also at St. Paul Catholic Church from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. with a Rosary being prayed at 6:30 p.m. that evening.
