Thomas S. Jankowski Sr., age 76, a lifelong resident of the Stanwood community, passed away Monday February 16, 2009 at his home. He was born August 29, 1932 to Casey and Pauline (Fernandez) Jankowski. Tom was honorably discharged from the United States Army serving during the Korean War. Following the service Tom returned to Stanwood and married Bobbie McNees on August 11, 1956. As a young man Tom held many jobs that eventually led to his employment at McAnerny in Grand Rapids. He later worked as a Lab Technician at Liberty Dairy (currently Dean's Foods) until his retirement. Tom was a talented gardener and he loved music, especially Blue Grass. He is survived by his loving wife, Bobbie of Stanwood; six sons, Thomas S. Jr. and wife Michelle of Stanwood, Bob and wife Cindi of Rodney, Wayne and wife Roxanne of Stanwood, Daniel and wife Pam of Big Rapids, Ted and wife Julie of Stanwood and Tony Jankowski of Stanwood; 18 grand children; 14 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; a sister, Lori (John) Florczak of Westchester, IL , many nieces and nephews and his close friend, Carl Gibson of Stanwood. Besides his parents, Tom was preceded in death by a grandson, Casey Jankowski. Funeral services will take place 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 18th at the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids with Tom's lifelong friend, Pastor Charlie Toliver officiating. Burial will be at the Stanwood Cemetery. The family will greet friends today (Tuesday) at the funeral home from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and one hour prior to services on Wednesday.
