Thomas L. Humphreys, age 62 of Big Rapids, passed away Wednesday, March 13, 2013. He was born July 30, 1950 in Big Rapids, the son of Clarence and Dorothy (Gifford) Humphreys. Tom grew up in Vermontville and Jackson. Shortly after high school he moved to Big Rapids to work the family farm. He is survived by two sisters, Sarah (David) Village of Berrien Springs, Laurel Humphreys of Big Rapids; a brother, Peter (Theresa) Humphreys of Kalamazoo; two nieces, Audra Village and Alison Village both of Berrien Springs; two nephews, Ira Humphreys of Kalamazoo, Aaron (Hadley) Humphreys of Big Rapids; three great-nieces, Violet Humphreys, Kendall DePew, Lachlyn Humphreys and many cousins, including Tracy(Quentin) Maes, Jeff(Carmen)Kolenbrander, and Rose (Paul)Kolenbrander. Tom was preceded in death by his parents. Tom loved farming, hunting, making maple syrup, playing euchre, and watching the Red Wings. A memorial service will take place 11:00 a.m. Thursday, March 21, 2013 at the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids with Steve Fitzgerald officiating. The family will greet friends one hour prior to services. Memorial contributions in Tom's name may be made to; Farm Aid, The National Rifle Association, Ducks Unlimited or The Miami Project to Cure Paralysis (an international center for spinal cord injury research).
