Thomas A. Gunn Sr., age 84 of Morley, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, January 17, 2017 at his home. He was born January 6, 1933 in Grand Rapids, the son of Irving and Ruth (Moore) Gunn. Tom was honorably discharged from the United States Army after serving during the Korean War.
He married Kathryn "Katie" Rupel in 1981 and together they made their home in Morley. Tom owned and operated Gunn and Sons Excavating for over 25 years; this was his passion and hobby. Tom enjoyed driving the bulldozer and giving his grandchildren rides. He collected antiques, Coca-Cola paraphernalia, and bottles that he found while he was digging.
Tom is survived by his four children, Loretta (Tom) Altman of Florida, Tammy Moran of White Cloud, Debra Steffes of Morley, and Thomas Jr. (Meridith) Gunn of Morley; three step-children, Debra (Bob) McCourt of Paris, Kim (Mike) Colby of Stanwood, and Matt Robinette of Newaygo; 18 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren with one on the way, and 6 great-great-grandchildren; brother, Bill (Louise) of Belding; sister, Betty of California; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Kathryn on September 2, 2007; step-son, John Inskeep; sister, Esther; and son-in-law, Wayne Steffes.
A memorial service will take place 1:00 p.m. Saturday, January 21, 2017 at the First Baptist Church in Morley with Pastor Steve Finn officiating. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service at the Church on Saturday.
Memorial contributions may be made in Toms name to the Morley American Legion Post 554.
