Thomas P. Brooks, age 67 of Big Rapids, passed away Tuesday, May 14, 2013 at his home. He was born May 16, 1945 in Charleston, South Carolina, the son of Wallie and Jeanne (Gregory) Brooks. Tom joined the United States Army in 1962 and was honorably discharged after serving during the Vietnam War. He married Mary Proudfoot on August 19, 1989 in Winter Haven, Florida. Tom enjoyed shooting guns, duck hunting and fishing. He loved cars and watching sports. He will be greatly missed by his family. Tom is survived by his wife Mary Brooks of Big Rapids; five children, Faith (Matthew) Brooks-Mason of East Lansing, Amanda Brooks of Big Rapids, Paul Brooks of Fort Lee, VA, Chuck (Kendra) Brooks of Grosse Pointe Shores and Thomas Brooks Jr. of Florida; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild; a brother, Robert (Ann) Brooks of NC; several nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Mark Brooks. Cremation has taken place and no services are planned at this time. Inurnment will take place at Arlington National Cemetery. Memorial contributions in Tom's name may be made to the American Heart Association or Hospice of Michigan. Envelopes may be picked up at the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids.
