Theodore "Ted" A. Bell, age 82 of Stanwood, passed away unexpectedly Friday, September 1, 2023, at his home. He was born in Big Rapids on June 10, 1941, the son of the late Harold and Celia (Denslow) Bell. Ted was a 1959 graduate from the first consolidated class at Morley Stanwood High School. He enlisted in the United States Navy serving during Vietnam and retired after 20 years. Ted married his high school sweetheart September 23, 1961. Together they moved with the military, raising their children in Grosse Ile, MI and Minneapolis, MN before moving back to Stanwood in 1968. He then began his 30-year career with MichCon, retiring in 1998. Ted was an avid fisherman. He enjoyed hunting and tending to his vegetable garden and hobby farm. Ted volunteered at the Mecosta County Senior Center as a tax aide for 15 years and also installed radio communication systems. He supported his grandchildren by attending their extracurricular activities and looked forward to playing cards with his friends. Ted was a Detroit Tigers and Lions fan. He was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Howard City, where he was an elder, and Morley American Legion Post 554. Ted is survived by his wife of nearly 62 years, Judy of Stanwood; three sons, Todd of Stanwood, Eric (Hilary) of St. Joseph, and Kurt (Laurie) of Coleman; son-in-law, Greg Brockway of Morley; nine grandchildren, Mitch (Maurice), Nathan, Ashlen (Israel) Ostrander, Drew, Chase, Olivia, Abbegail, Riley (Adara), and Curtis (Kirsten); great-granddaughter, Chloe; sister, Lolly (Gary) Gust of Cedar Springs; brother, Marv (Jean) of Stanwood; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his daughter Stacey Brockway, great-granddaughter Amiah Bell, and sister Nancy McClung. Funeral Services will take place 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 8, 2023, at Bethel Lutheran Church, 18645 W. Howard City-Edmore Road, Howard City, MI 49329, with Pastor Richard Townes officiating. The family will greet friends from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, September 7th at Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids and one hour prior to the funeral Friday at Church. Ted will be laid to rest at Stanwood Cemetery.
