Terry R. Chapman, age 71 of Bitely, passed away unexpectedly Friday, August 15, 2014 at Spectrum Health Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids. He was born March 30, 1943 in Battle Creek, the son of Raymond and Fern (Somers) Chapman. Terry graduated from Grand Haven High School in 1961 and then attended Muskegon Business College, achieving his associate's degree. He married Sharon Epplett on April 8, 1967 and together they made their home and raised their family in Mattawan. Terry was employed by the State of Michigan as an auditor for 32 years until he retired. He liked to hunt on his property that has been in his family for over 100 years. After his retirement, Terry and Sharon moved to the property. He enjoyed going to auctions and adding to his extensive collection of John Deere toy tractors. Terry loved spending time with his family and he will be greatly missed. He is survived by his two sons, Dale (Kimberly) Chapman of Paw Paw and Charles (Joree) Chapman of Alma; mother, Fern Chapman of Portage; three grandchildren and one on the way, Nick Mills, Alex Mills and Kaitlyn Chapman; three great-grandchildren, Adrienne and Ben Mills and Tristin Chapman; two brothers, Jim (Susie) Chapman of Vicksburg and Gary (Connie) Chapman of Vicksburg; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father and his wife, Sharon Chapman on March 28, 2001. The family will greet friends from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 19, 2014 at the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids. Funeral services will take place 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 25, 2014 at the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids with Pastor Matt Allison officiating. The family will also greet friends one hour prior to the service from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on August 25th at the funeral home. Interment will be at Curtis Cemetery in Home Township near Bitely. Memorial contributions may be made in Terry's name to his grandchild's college tuition.
