Obituary

On April 11, 2010 Terri Thurston went to be with Jesus after a hard fought battle with brain cancer. She was a wife, mother, teacher, and friend to many. Her gentle spirit and easy laugh were a blessing to all. Terri graduated from Morley Stanwood High School in 1969. She earned a bachelor's degree from Jordan College. She married her husband, Mark, on November 3, 1973. They were married for 36 great years. She had two daughters, Rev. Hillary Thurston-Cox and Chelsey Jo Thurston, who she loved with all her heart. Terri worked as a para-professional in the Chippewa Hills School District until retirement. Her love for each student was evident and she saw the good in everyone. She was also committed to making a difference in the world. Terri traveled the world with Free Methodist World Missions to serve God's people. She helped build a church in Costa Rica and worked with the poor in India. She was a woman of prayer and encouragement. Her patience and kindness will be remembered. Despite the diagnosis of inoperable brain cancer, she chose to enjoy life to the fullest. The last year of her life was spent going to yard sales, camping, and being with those she loved. She died peacefully at home surrounded by loving family. She is survived by her husband, Mark Thurston. Daughters, Rev. Hillary Thurston-Cox (husband, Vaughn) and Chelsey Jo Thurston. Her father, Harvey Mumah and sister, Georgia Jo Mumah. Terri was preceded in death by her mother Donna Joan "Bobbie" Mumah in 2004. A memorial service will take place 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 17th at the Stanwood Free Methodist Church with Pastor Ron White officiating. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be given to the "Terri Thurston Mission Fund" at the Stanwood Free Methodist Church.
