Teresa "Anne" Best of Stanwood passed away Sunday, July 17, 2016 surrounded by her loving family. It was her 82nd birthday. She was born in 1934 in Detroit, the daughter of Savario and Lucia (Vingola) Russo. Anne graduated from East Detroit High School. She married Daryl Best Sr. on April 8, 1961 and together they made their home in East Detroit until moving to Stanwood in 1970. Anne began working as a substitute teacher for the Morley-Stanwood School District. She also attended Central Michigan University, until earning her Masters of Education degree. Anne retired from teaching in 1998 at the Morley Elementary School, where she volunteered for many years.
During retirement, Anne and her husband Daryl were very active in the community. She assisted with Shriner events, fundraisers at the Big Rapids Elks Lodge and other charitable projects. Anne was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church in Howard City.
Anne will be remembered for many attributes: including a quick wit and great sense of humor, a strong faith and work ethic, her creativity and honest friendship, but most of all for being a loving and dedicated wife, mother and grandmother. She will be forever missed by her beloved family. Surviving are her five children; Julie (Bill Allen) Best of Paris, Daryl Jr. (Candyce) Best of Warren, Patrick (Jodi) Best of St. Cloud, MN, John (Melissa) Best of Kalamazoo, Bonnie (Harry) Best-Pero of Stanwood; seven grandchildren, Jameela Guy, Anthony Best, Andrew Best, Michael Best, Patrick T. Best, Isabel Best, Conner Pero; many nieces, nephews and extended family including the DeLuca and Teceno families.
Anne was preceded in death by her husband, Daryl Best Sr. on June 14, 2005, two brothers, Rocco Russo, Sam Russo and a sister, Angeline Towne.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 21st at Christ the King Catholic Church in Howard City with Father James Wyse officiating. The family will greet friends on Wednesday, July 20th from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids with a scripture service at 7:30 p.m. that evening. The family will also greet friends one hour prior to Mass at the church on Thursday.
