Obituary

Sue A. Totten, age 80, of Big Rapids, passed away Saturday, October 20, 2018. She was born September 10, 1938 in Fremont the daughter of Frank and Jessie (Lovell) Thompson. She married Meredith Will "Meredy" Totten on June 23, 1956. They made their home in White Cloud where Sue worked as a teachers aide. In 1983 Meredy went into business with longtime friend Chuck Franklin and soon after Sue retired from the White Cloud schools and began work as the officer manager at Chuck and Meredys Auto Service in Big Rapids. Sue and Meredy retired in 1996. They enjoyed traveling south in their motorhome and eventually wintered full time in Florida. Sue was a baker of treats and cookies that she enjoyed gifting to family and friends. Throughout the years, she donated hundreds of winter coats to local agencys for children. She was a faithful member of The Grant Center United Methodist Church and happily volunteered where she was needed. She is survived by her children, Carmen Totten of West Bloomfield, Martin (Denise) Totten of White Cloud, Tim (Karen) Totten of White Cloud; 9 grandchildren, Michael, Hailey and Benjamin Totten, Joslyn (Rex Marsh) Maike, Brandon (Danielle) Maike, Mark Rodgers, Jeanene (Michael) Rulason, Daniel Rodgers, Kyle Rodgers; two great-grandchildren, Zoey and Theo Rodgers; three sisters, Patsy (Richard) Long of White Cloud, Linda (Jim) Dougan of Sparta, Vicky (Dick) McLean of Blowing Rock, NC; many nieces and nephews. Sue was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Meredith in 2011, a granddaughter, Mandy Sue Totten and a grandson, Will Totten. Funeral services will take place 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 27, 2018 at the Grant Center United Methodist Church with Reverend Meredith Rupe. The family will greet friends on Friday, October 26th from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids. Burial will be at Big Prairie Cemetery. The family encourages memorial contributions in Sues name be made to the Grant Center United Methodist Church.
