Sue Ann Sterling, age 75 of Canadian Lakes passed away Saturday, September 5, 2009 at Mercy Hospital in Cadillac. She was born February 23, 1934 in Lansing to Howard and Gertrude (Hadden) VanVlerah. Sue married Keith Sterling on September 16, 1950 in Lansing where they made their home before moving to the Mecosta/Canadian Lakes area in 1962. She enjoyed cooking for her family and watching her grandchildren and great grandchildren play football. Sue was an avid reader and always had the grand dogs and cats close by. Sue is survived by her loving husband of 58 years Keith Sterling of Canadian Lakes, four children; Keith (Claudia) Sterling of Canadian Lakes, Sharon Hillman of Canadian Lakes, Terri (Larry) Johnson of Canadian Lakes/Fla., Brenda (Jim) McConnell of North Fort Myers, Fla., seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, sister Barbara (Charles) Johnson of North Fort Myers, Fla. and several nieces and nephews. Sue was preceded in death by her parents and son-in-law Dan Hillman. Funeral services will take place 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, September 8, 2009 at New Hope United Methodist Church in Mecosta with Pastor Vic Charnley. Interment will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Mecosta. The family will greet friends from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday at the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids. In lieu of flowers memorial donations in Sue's name may be given to the American Heart or Diabetes Association.
