Steven Dale Lareva, age 69 of Reed City, passed away peacefully after a courageous three year battle from cancer Wednesday, September 22, 2010 surrounded by family and friends. He was born July 16, 1941 in Hesperia, Michigan to Earl and Lillian (Peck) Lareva. Steven married Betty Gawne and they made their home near Reed City. In 2004, Steven retired from Reith Riley completing thirty years of work. After retirement, Steven and Betty began traveling. In 2006 his dream trip came true when they went to Alaska. Besides traveling, Steve enjoyed attending his grandchildren's sporting events, hunting, and watching Nascar. Steven was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and friend to many. He was extremely knowledgeable and enjoyed sharing his information with everyone. He is survived by his loving wife, friend, and caretaker, Betty Gawne; caring daughter, Debra (Al) Williamson of McKinney, Texas; 2 loving sons of Reed City, Darin (Michelle) Gawne, Jason (Kelly) Gawne; 3 grandchildren of Reed City, Logan, Megan, and Carter Gawne, who he loved and cherished; 2 brothers, Bert (Marianne) Lareva of Grand Rapids, Harold (Twillia) Lareva of Jacksonville, North Carolina; 2 sisters, Nancy Elliott of Muskegon, Marlene (Doug) Vining of White Cloud; sister-in-law, Ruth Lareva of Coopersville; special son, Ryan Bennett of Reed City; as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Steven was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Darrell and Marvin Lareva and sister, Shirley Binkley. The family will be greeting friends at Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home on Saturday, October 2, 2010 from 1:00 p.m. "" 2:00 p.m. with a memorial service at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Dawn Pooley and Pastor Doug Bennett officiating.
