Stanley R. Spooner, age 86 a lifelong resident of Big Rapids, passed away Wednesday, April 25, 2007. He was born June 27, 1920 in Grand Ledge to Orlie and Frieda (Kreller) Spooner. Stanley was honorably discharged from the United States Army serving during World War II in the European Theater. He married Beulah M. Mercer on June 22, 1946. They were married for 55 years. Beulah preceded him in death on December 1, 2001. Stanley and Beulah were co-owners of Spooner's Inn in Rogers Heights and Tasty Foods in Morley. Stanley retired from Ferris State University where he was assistant superintendent of custodial services for 20 years. He was a member of the Eagles Aerie #2535 and American Legion Post #98 both of Big Rapids. Stanley was a talented musician, and on special occasions entertained family and friends with his guitar playing, harmonica and ukulele. Stanley Spooner is survived by several loving nieces and nephews. Funeral services will take place 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 28th at the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids with Pastor Philip Bongard officiating. The family will greet friends on Friday at the funeral home from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery near Stanwood.
