Sondra L. Chupp, age 89 of Chase, passed away Thursday, March 23, 2023 at Reed City Fields. She was born in Virden, Illinois on April 17, 1933, the daughter of Rudolph and Vera (Castle) Knuth. Sondra married Benjamin Chupp in 1951 and together they were members of Trinity Lutheran Church. Shortly after their marriage, Benjamin enlisted in the military and went to war while Sondra raised their children in Reed City. Sondra and Benjamin both graduated from night school the day before their oldest daughter, Gloria graduated High School. Sondra retired in 1985 after more than 20 years of employment as a Nurses Aide and Ward Clerk with the Reed City Hospital. She enjoyed ceramics and crocheting, especially pot holders and baby blankets. Sondra loved spending time with her family most of all. She will be missed. Sondra is survived by her seven children, Gloria (Don Ross) Cooley of Big Rapids, Susan Essenberg of Kingsley, Ben (Michelle) Chupp of Kingsley, Diane (Steve) Garchow of Rodney, Sandy (John) Lorenz of Evart, Bradley (Denise) Chupp of Decatur, Alabama, and Christine (Evan Baker) Kirby of Leesville, Louisiana; 19 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren; four siblings, Charles (Barb) Knuth of Paris, Edwin (Terri) Knuth of Texas, Elizabeth Stringer of Rogers Heights, and Orlin Knuth of Fenton; sister-in-law, Caroline Knuth of Reed City; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Benjamin Chupp on November 13, 2022, two brothers Leon and Rex Knuth, three granddaughters, and two sons-in-law Ronald Cooley and Doug Essenberg. Private services will be held at a later date.
