Shirley May Scott, age 82 of Stanwood, went to be with the Lord, Monday August 25, 2008. She was born May 3, 1926 in Grand Rapids the daughter of William Sr. and Pearl (Faust) Beals. Shirley was raised in Stanwood and graduated from Big Rapids High School in 1943. She married William D. Scott on January 7, 1945. Bill's military career took them to Newport News, Virginia where Shirley worked as a secretary for the Unites States Government until the end of World War II. The young couple returned to the area to live. Shirley was a busy homemaker and bookkeeper, and served as the Austin Township Clerk. Following retirement Bill and Shirley wintered in Dade City and Zephyrhills Florida for over 20 years. Shirley has been a part of the Stanwood Free Methodist Church her entire life. She is survived by her loving family and many friends including, Three children; Rebecca (Robert) Steketee of Haslett, John Scott and life partner, Fred Hudson of St. Louis, MO, Timothy (Darlene) Scott of Bridgeport, OH, Five grandchildren, Sean Scott and Cassandra Scott of St. Louis, MO, Samuel Strother, Abygayle Strother, and ChristiAn Strother all of the Lansing area, seven Great-grandchildren; Hayden, Brenden, Iyanna, Samuel, Alelia, ChristiAn and Nadia Monet. Sister, Donna Nelson of Bay City, sisters, Sharon (Ron) Scirovecz , Marcia (Carl) Yonker, Harriet (Bob) Barr all from Grand Rapids and Sandy (Jim) Bruce of Hastings, brothers, Art (Judy) Beals of Grand Rapids, Bob B. (Cindy) Beals of Grand Blanc, many nieces, nephews and "Adopted" family members, and special family friends. Cremation has taken place and there will be a memorial service 3:00 p.m. Friday, October 10th at the Stanwood Free Methodist Church with Pastor Ron White officiating. Memorial contributions in Shirley's name may be given to the Stanwood Free Methodist Church, The Susan P. Wheatlake Women's Cancer and Wellness Fund or the Gideon's International.
