Shirley M. (Armstrong) McEwan, age 80, born August 4, 1929 in Lachine, MI, to John and Edna (Mills) Snider, passed away Sunday, July 25, 2010 at her home. Shirley married James E. McEwan on June 26, 1982 in Ann Arbor and made their home in Manchester. Shirley retired from GM in Ypsilanti, MI. They traveled for 6 years in their RV before moving to their current home in Barryton in 2006. Shirley was a member of the Barryton American Legion Post #473 Women's Auxiliary and was an avid flower gardener, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. She was a loving friend to all she met and endeared herself to many new acquaintances she met in the Barryton area. Her laughter and her love of her family will be greatly missed. Shirley is survived by her husband Jim McEwan and children: Dianna (Dale) Lynn Burgher of Stockbridge, Richard (Janet) Armstrong, wife Janet of South Lyon, Patrice (Richard) Steinaway of New Market, TN, Michael Armstrong of Ormand Beach, FL, Douglas Armstrong of Ann Arbor, Cathy (Lester) Dukart of Lake Linden, Susan (Henry) DeSautel of Manchester, Rose (Craig) Johnson of Saline, Daughter-in-law Sherry McEwan of Wills Pointe, TX, 30 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Robert Snider, one sister, Nancy Nicholson and at the same time lost a son James H. McEwan and his son James in an accident. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, July 30, 2010 at the Daggett Funeral Home in Barryton with the family greeting friends one hour prior (Noon "" 1PM) to the service. A second Memorial Service will be held at the Milan Free Methodist Church, 1PM, Tuesday, August 3rd, with family greeting friends one hour prior (Noon "" 1PM). Memorial donations in Shirley's name can be made to the American Cancer Society.
