Shirley Margaret Maxon, 82 years old, died on Monday, September 29, 2008, at her daughter's home in Central Park, Washington. Shirley was born on February 10, 1926 In Pontiac, Michigan to John Benjermin and Lois Gertrude (Lyons) Austin. She was raised and attended school in Pontiac, Michigan. Shirley was married to Curtis Lyle Maxon on August 1, 1943 in her father's home in Pontiac. Shirley and Curtis resided in Pontiac until 1974 when they moved to Rodney, Michigan. While in Pontiac she worked in the upholstery department of Fisher Body for a short time following World War Two. She then worked as a beautician for five years and later for ten years as a nurse's aide. In 2002, she moved from Rodney, Michigan to Central Park, Washington where she had since resided. Shirley had traveled to Alaska and Wyoming. She enjoyed knitting afghans and sweaters for her family and friends. Shirley is survived by her daughters: Margaret Freeman and her husband, Ken of Ortonville, Michigan, Bonnie Russell and her husband, Jack of Central Park, Washington, Cindy Foote of Reed City, Michigan, her sister, Joyce Wojick of Waterford, Michigan, eight grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren, four great great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Curtis "Lyle" Maxon on August 31, 1995, one brother and two sisters. The family will greet friends from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids this Friday, October 3rd. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 4th at the funeral home with Father Joe Fix officiating.
