Shirley Rice Davis, age 98, passed away on Friday, January 6, 2017, at Porter Hills Village in Grand Rapids, where she has resided for the last 20 years. Shirley was born on August 22, 1918 to the late C. Edgar and Grace (Lyman) Rice in Hinsdale, IL. She earned an associates degree from Western Michigan University. Shirley was a bookkeeper for several companies in the South Haven area for 35 years before starting her tenure at Ferris State as a Resident Dorm Advisor. She loved working at Ferris and was employed for 20 years before retiring in 1993 at the age of 75.

Shirley was a member of the East Congregational United Church of Christ in Grand Rapids. Her charismatic personality and zest for life will never be forgotten.

Shirley is survived by her son James (Jan) Buck of Chapin, SC; two grandchildren, Christopher Buck and Martha Colucci; four great-grandchildren; ten nieces, five nephews, and numerous friends and care givers who became her family at Porter Hills.

Shirleys son Michael Davis; brothers, Ashley and Robert Rice; sisters, Alice Gabriel, Elva Wheeler, Nina Pryatel, Eleanor Harry and Janis Bennett all preceded her in death.

A celebration of Shirleys life will take place 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 13, 2017 at Porter Hills Village, 3600 E. Fulton, Grand Rapids, MI 49546, with Pastor Ruth Fitzgerald officiating.

Memorial donations in Shirleys name may be made to the Porter Hills Benevolent Fund, 4450 Cascade Road S.E., Suite 200, Grand Rapids, MI 49546.
