It is with great sadness that Shirley F. Clements, age 87, of Big Rapids, passed away Wednesday, September 2M, 2026, at home with her husband Phil at her side. Shirley was under the care of Elara Caring hospice, after a long battle with dementia.

Shirley was born October 25, 1938, in Jackson, Mi., to Bemard and Phyllis Johnson. In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by her daughter Jody Clements, sister Sharon Herder, brother-in-law David Herder, sister-in-law Sharon Tompsett, brother in-law Robert Clements, brother-in-law Roger Clements, brother-in-law Paul Tompsett, sister-in-law, Faye Clements, sister-in-law Yovonne Clements, Mother & Father-in-law Fred & Elenor Clements, and her Aunt Helen Jones. She was married to Phil Clements in June, of 1970, and he survives.

Also surviving are brothers John Johnson & his wife Linda of Portland, Tom Johnson & Diane of Union City, Tn. Nephews Bemie & Karie Herder of Waterford, David & Nancy Tompsett of Roscommon, Gary & Kim Clements of Ionia, Jeff & Julie Tompsett of Trufant. Nieces Laura Clements of Ionia, Judy & George McDonald of Belding, Nova & Jay Cheatham of Bartlett, Tn, Sherry & Rodney Snyder of Stanton, Shelly & Scott Randolph of Mesick, Shawna Prater & family of Lansing, Jill & Alex Covarrubias of Germantown, Tn, Jeney Vroman & family of Portland, Shanda & Matt Stephens of Stanton, Michelle & Ben Williams of Jackson, Patty & Chris Ehlert of Stanton. As well as her great friend Sue (Schuberg) Fyvie of Morley.

Shirley was an excellent teacher and caring educator for nearly 40 years. Other than Jackson Public Schools, she spent much of her teaching career at the Montcalm Area Career Center in Sidney, Mi., teaching students office procedures and functions. Shirley was also the Work Too School Director where she worked with Students and area Businesses on Student employment while in school. She had a Masters degree from MSLJ, and received several outstanding teaching awards for her efforts over the years.

She loved to travel, especially the South Pacific Islands, and with her husband Phil to many of his baseball games in Arizona, Florida, California, Minnesota, South Dakota, etc. She liked playing the piano on occasion and visiting with friends and family. She loved to go to the Casino with her great friends, Sue and Sue's late Mother Virginia Schuberg.

She will be missed by all those who knew her. Arrangements for cremation are being handled by Daggett Gilbert Funeral Homes of Big Rapids. A possible memorial celebration will be set at a later date, and details will she shared once available.
