Sheri Jo (Horgan) Montag, age 42 of Grand Rapids, formerly of Big Rapids, passed away Thursday, February 11, 2016 at Faith Hospice of Trillium Woods; she had fought a long and courageous battle against cancer. She was born February 15, 1973 in Big Rapids, the youngest child of James "Jim" and Joanne R. (Bouman) Horgan. Sheri graduated from Big Rapids High School in 1991; during high school, she played sports and attended Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp, traveling to Europe with the Blue Lake International Choir. She continued her education and became a licensed cosmetologist. Sheri also held several retail jobs in the Grand Rapids area until attending Ross Medical graduating in 1998 as a Certified Medical Assistant. She was employed by The Fertility Center, West Michigan Cardiology and most recently by Bed Bath and Beyond in Grandville. Sheri married Jason Montag on April 30, 2005 in Jamaica and they returned to Grand Rapids to make their home. Sheri appreciated her home and family. She was a dedicated wife, mother and daughter. She enjoyed traveling and family trips, but especially going to the beach or the cabin. Sheri will be remembered for her beautiful smile, for being a true friend, for her stubbornness, her competitiveness and many other attributes. She will be loved forever and never forgotten by her cherished family and friends including; her husband, Jason and their two sons, Zachary and Ashton all of Grand Rapids; her parents, Joanne and James "Jim" Horgan of Paris; sister, Sheila (Brian) Swartz of Caledonia; brother Jimmy (Kim) Horgan of Middleville; nieces and nephews, Joshua (Lydia) Swartz of Traverse City and their three sons, Zane, Cameron and Macsen, Bradley Swartz of Grand Rapids, Brianna (fianc Derek Eaton) Swartz of Caledonia, Ashley (Alex) Sackett of Caledonia and their son "Super" Parker Sackett, Brittany Horgan and Mitchell Horgan both at home in Middleville; Godmother, Mary Therese Smith of Big Rapids, father and mother-in-law, Paul and Jane (Hamilton) Montag of Jenison, grandmother-in-law, Elizabeth Montag of Sterling Heights; brother-in-law, Trevor (Jenny) Montag of Jenison; sister-in-law, Danielle "Dani" Montag of Kentwood; many aunts, uncles, cousins and dear friends including, Megan Gifford, Darcy Ferguson and Missy DeYoung. Sheri was preceded in death by her grandparents, Ruth and Joe Bouman and Bill and Margaret Horgan. A memorial service will take place 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 17, 2016 at St. Marys Catholic Church in Big Rapids with Father Joe Fix officiating. The family will greet friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday February 16th at the Daggett-Gilbert Funeral Home in Big Rapids and one hour prior to services on Wednesday at the church.
