Sebastian "Sabby" Rei VanWestrienen passed away unexpectedly in Big Rapids on November 2, 2025. He was born in Big Rapids on March, 5, 2003 to Chris and Bobbie (Marrs) VanWestrienen.

Sabby spent his entire life in the city of Big Rapids. He attended Eastwood Elementary, and later graduated from Big Rapids High School in 2022. He made many close friends, with whom he enjoyed video gaming and playing sports like soccer, basketball, and gaga ball. While Sabby struggled in school, he was a math whiz and had a knack for memorizing numbers. Sabby was no stranger to the local emergency room, where he often had to be stitched up after fooling around with his friends.

Many relatives and friends will miss Sabby deeply; his parents: Chris and Bobbie; siblings: Chloe and Marcus; Nana and Papa: Jack Jr and Terry VanWestrienen; Bumpa and Grandma: Tim and Mary Marrs; aunts and uncles: Tim Marrs, Misty Harvey, Rachael VanWestrienen, and Dawn VanWestrienen; and good friends: Sam, Ethan, Caleb, Clayton, Matthew, and Dom.

Sebastian is preceded in death by his maternal grandmother: Darcy Marrs: and paternal grandparents Jack Sr. and Grace VanWestrienen.

Arrangements are in the care of Daggett Gilbert Funeral Homes, Big Rapids. A memorial service for Sebastian will be held at a later date.
