Sara "Sally" Mabel Krumins, age 82, passed on peacefully Saturday, August 6, 2022, surrounded by her family. Sally was born in Hammond, Indiana, the daughter of A. Arthur and Wilma (Shrock) Mabel. She was a 1958 graduate of Howe High School, Indianapolis, Indiana and worked part time at the Indianapolis library throughout high school and college. Sally studied history and graduated from Franklin College, Franklin Indiana, with a Bachelor of Arts, Magna Cum Laude in 1962. After graduation, she joined the Indiana Public library system full time. Sally went on to earn a Master of Arts in Library Science from Indiana University in 1966. Her first official librarians job was with the Monroe County Public Library in Bloomington Indiana progressing to Assistant Director. In 1970, she joined the Ferris State University Timme Library reference desk staff. Sally served in many capacities including acting library Dean over her 31 years of service, attaining Full Professor status in 1990 and retiring in 2001. While at Ferris, Sally was an active member of the Ferris Faculty Association, Ferris Professional Women, American Library Association, Michigan Library Association, and American Association of University Women. Sally was a board member on the Mid-Michigan Library Board and the Big Rapids Community Library board. Sally was a member of Delta Zeta Sorority Psi Chapter (Franklin College) and later was an advisor to Delta Zeta, Zeta Nu Chapter at Ferris. Sally also volunteered as a girl scout leader, worked in the hospital auxiliary guild gift shop, and supported the local arts even volunteering at Artworks in her later years. Sally had a thirst for knowledge and loved all books. She was an avid reader with a passion for mystery novels. Sally loved animals, especially cats and birds. Sally had a wonderful sense of humor and always had a smile for everyone. She will be missed by all who knew her. Sally was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her beloved husband of 56 years, Maris of Big Rapids; children, Mara (Andrew) Warncke of Loveland, OH, and Karl Krumins of Big Rapids; brother, Dr. Thomas (Nancy) Mabel of Noblesville Indiana; grandchildren, Jack, and Erik; nephew Andrew and Niece Leann.
