IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Sandra Faye
Wright
September 26, 1957 – September 6, 2021
Sandra "Sandy" Faye Wright, age 63 of Stanwood, left us on Sept 6, 2021, after a life filled with joy, love, and a dedication to helping others. Sandy was born in Ypsilanti on Sept 26, 1957, the daughter of Oren and Emma (Morgan) Gilbreath. She was a 1975 graduate from Big Rapids High School. During this time, she was a standout athlete. Sandy was instrumental in organizing the first womens varsity basketball team in Big Rapids in 1974.
She went on to earn her BA in education from Ferris State University. Sandy continued her passion for sports at the collegiate level with the opportunity to play varsity basketball and softball for Ferris. The community acknowledged Sandys determination and hard work earning her an induction into the Mecosta County Sports Hall of Fame. She continued to play summer league softball for 30 years and was a board member of the Big Rapids Womens Softball Association.
Sandy married the love of her life Chris Wright on Aug 24, 2007, and together they made their home in Stanwood. She taught Marketing at Mecosta Osceola Intermediate School District/Mecosta Osceola Career Center for over 15 years before she retired. She enjoyed taking her students to Michigan DECA, a statewide competition.
Sandy was generous with her time, energy and expertise and she both served on and led boards in her community. To this, and with everything she did, she brought her boundless capacities for organization, leadership and persistence, always balanced with common sense and laughter. Her service included Big Rapids Little League, Big Rapids Park and Recreation, WISE Marketing Committee, and Big Rapids Downtown Business Association. She was an adamant fan of all Detroit professional sports teams. Sandy took true joy in her relationships with others, and loved nothing more than to be together with family. She most importantly was an amazing grandmother, mother, sister, and a loving wife. Sandy will be dearly missed.
She is survived by her husband of 14 years, Chris Wright; two sons, Brody Csernai of Big Rapids and Justin (Alyssa) Csernai of Paris; two grandchildren, Cohen and Harper Csernai; four siblings, Leonard (Pam) Gilbreath of Detroit, MI, Diane Rogers of Toledo, OH, Judy (Eric) Zylinski of Canton, MI and Kelly Gilbreath of Pittsburgh, PA; sister-in-law, Carolyn Gilbreath of ClintonTownship, MI; and many nieces and nephews.
Sandy was preceded in death by her parents and brother Kenneth Gilbreath.
