Sandra Lynn Shaw

August 18, 1946 – June 9, 2025

Sandy Shaw, 78, of Big Rapids, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 9, 2025 in Reed City, Michigan.

She was born on August 18, 1946 in Jackson, the daughter of Paul and Maxine (Roby) Shorter. Sandy met her husband, Dennis, while working at McGraw/Edison in Albion Michigan. They were married June 12th, 1971. After their daughter, Heather, was born she became a stay-at-home mom. Up until moving to Big Rapids, she devoted much of her time to Pope United Methodist Church where she loyally played the organ and piano every Sunday and was involved in many aspects of the church.

Much of Sandy's family knew her as "Cookie" or "Cook." Sandy was creative and family-oriented; she expressed her artistic side through drawing and painting, and she found joy in simple, nostalgic pleasures like watching old movies with her husband. She loved to read devotional and history books and magazines on decorating. She deeply valued her time with loved ones, whether she was cheering on her grandchildren at sports events or spending countless hours on the phone with her sister, Connie. Sandy also enjoyed playing board and card games at the dining room table with her family.

All who knew Sandy will miss her fierce loyalty, her loving heart, her gentle soul and her ability to see the bright side of any situation. Her kindness and true care and concern for others before herself was evident to the end of her life.

Sandy is survived by her devoted husband, Dennis Shaw; her daughter, Heather (John) Zocco; grandchildren, Noelle and Isaac Zocco; sister, Connie Garn; aunt, Pat Phelps; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brother Keith Shorter.

Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, June 17 at 11:00 a.m. at Pope United Methodist Church in Springport, Michigan. Visitation will be held one hour prior at 10:00 a.m. at the church.
